Have you ever wondered how some people can go to work, do the same thing day in and day out and go home feeling content with the job that they did? Do you find it hard to understand how this group of people feel like their daily contributions are enough? So often I struggle to understand these people, the one's who are considered followers, the people who choose not to step up and take the lead, who choose not to take the initiative.
So the true question is - are these people lacking motivation or are they truly content with the role they play within an organization? Is it the way they were raised that has caused this "laziness" as most of us would describe it? Do they choose to sit on the sidelines because of their social abilities or maybe they lack the confidence needed to stand up and voice their opinions? Whatever the case may be, it is said that every organization needs these people in order to function. Without these individuals, an organization would be set for failure.
Take a look around you - if all of the individuals in your group, team or department were leaders, how much "work" would get done in a day? Too many leaders can make for a lack in getting things done. Always be sure to thank these people - recognize their efforts. They may not shine like a leader, but they contribute just as much, if not more to the company and at the end of the day, they are just doing their job like everyone else. Praise them! Thank them! and most importantly - make them feel needed!
